Women, Infant & Children (WIC)
Women, Infant & Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutritional program for women, infants and children up to 5 years of age who meet health and socio-economic eligibility requirements. WIC provides healthy foods including milk, eggs, juice and vegetables, as well as nutritional information and breastfeeding promotion and support.
The WIC program is for pregnant women, breastfeeding women that have had a baby in the last 12 months, women that have had a baby in the last 6 months, and infants and children under 5 years of age. To be eligible for WIC you must live in North Carolina, meet income guidelines, and be at nutritional risk.
Breastfeeding support is provided through our Pregnancy Care Management, Care Coordination for Children and WIC services. Participants and their partners receiving WIC are welcome to join our breastfeeding class.
Class participants may receive a free DVD on the "how to's" of breastfeeding as well as printed materials to help mom prepare for breastfeeding. Lactation consultants are available to assist breastfeeding women both by phone and in person.
Breastfeeding WIC participants are also eligible for enhanced food packages both for themselves and their infants 6 months of age and older. Manual and electronic breast pumps are available to participants based on need.
